Yukon, Ho!

So, this will be a brief post as I am quite tired this evening.   Sterling and I have seen so many wonderful things in the past few days and have become big fans of Canada!  Above, we are in front of Lake Louise where we did a beautiful hike in the snow.  It's cold here!

At the end of the hike, there was a tea house where we enjoyed some delicious tea and a bit of warmth.  Then we hiked down, seeing blue blue Lake Louise below.

And on we continued!  We crossed Bow Lake and the guidebook said that Peyto Lake was worth the hike.

Again, it was a hike in the snow, but again, it was totally worth it.  The color of the lake was spectacular...  such a brilliant blue.

We continued up the Icefield Parkway and stopped at the Athabasca Glacier.  It's too dangerous to walk on it, but we enjoyed getting close to it.  It was quite poignant to see the signs that said where the glacier had been in 2000, 1992, 1950, etc.  It is receding all too rapidly due to global warming.

We have enjoyed some delicious meals while camping and Sterling starts a mean fire.  The truck has been a perfect little home for us.

We passed Mt. Robson, the tallest peak in the Rockie Mountains in Canada, but was hiding in the clouds for the day.  We always enjoy the tourist infocentres for their indoor plumbing though, of course.

I am afraid that Sterling is getting a big too "Grizzly Man" on me, so we decided to stop in a hotel tonight (also because it has been raining all day and it's not as fun to camp in the rain).  So, tonight, we're in an old airforce base where you have to take your shoes off to come in and the bathrooms are down the hall (being one of the only places to sleep for 300 miles allows for a rather steep rate though).

However, before we arrived here, we kept a running tally of the fascinating wildlife we've seen (bears, moose, buffalo, sheep, and more).  Ahead is a giant buffalo that crossed our path today.

And we arrived in the Yukon!  Yukon, Ho (is the caption to this picture)!  (Of course, you should all be familiar with this book title from "Calvin and Hobbes.")

Tomorrow we arrive in Alaska!
