Nice Nice

I set my alarm this morning so I wouldn’t sleep so late. There are adventures to be had in Nice and I wouldn’t want to miss them!

Yesterday was a slow morning. Or slow for Randal and I anyway. It was Elisabetta‘s birthday and hopefully she had a good one! Charles had gotten croissants and pastries for all of us and we had a leisurely morning as we decided what to do. Art museums!

Enjoying stellar public transit, we made our way to the Chagall Museum. He really is my favorite. Such joy and such celebration of love. My favorites were the room with five paintings about love and the painting where Adam and Eve were expelled from paradise, which was joyful and beautiful, celebrating motherhood!

Of course, I forgot to take a picture of the paradise one- but this another that I loved.

The kids’ favorite was likely the cat at the bag check point. And I had to have a talk with them (re: Marian) about doing things that other people wanted to do patiently because there were 9 people to please.

And after that important lesson, the kids and I separated from the rest of the group. They went to the Matisse museum, which I saw in 2005, which is clearly recent history, and the kids and I found went downtown. We rode a beautiful, double decker carousel twice! (We had to try both levels!) and then went on a quest for toy stores. (We were moderately successful, but no Lego to be found, so not successful enough for Milo.)

We all liked the lion’s butt, especially Marian.

We rejoined the rest of the crew to find a place for drinks and dinner and settled upon Le Cafe de France on the main pedestrian Place. Touristy? Yes. Beautiful and delicious? Also YES.

Mussels were enjoyed by all the kids. Local rosé enjoyed by many adults. I got frog legs and they really do taste like chicken (such tiny bones!) and we all tried them (except Elisabetta and Randal of course).

We made our way back home… Milo’s fatigue waning and wanting to climb the million steps up the hill from our Airbnb. We caught the tail end of Spain’s victory (World Cup games not being at conducive European times) and headed to bed.

Today! The beach!
