De visit to Detroit

Sterling and I traveled to Michigan this weekend to let them borrow some of our sunshine and check out the University of Michigan School of Public Health in Ann Arbor. It was a wonderful, fun-packed weekend of family and tourism!

We started in Ann Arbor and visited Ron, Belita and Sarina's beautiful home. I also went to the admitted student day at the school, but decided with Sterling, that Baltimore might be a better fit for me. I loved Johns Hopkins and we really loved the school, so we decided officially to head east in July! I will be starting at the Bloomberg School of Public Health on July 2nd. But, on with the trip... We had an amazing Sabbath dinner, great conversation, and even an impromptu talent show in Ann Arbor with the Jochim-Cowan clan before heading to Detroit the next day.

Sterling took me to see some of his favorite parts of Detroit like Belle Isle and check out some fantastic buildings that could be the potential next renovation project. We then met Mark and Karen for dinner. We caught some great jazz and a delicious dinner and then headed to the Detroit Institute of Art to watch "The Gold Rush" with Charlie Chaplin, which was quite funny. We also caught "A Voyage to the Moon," a film that was made in 1902 and was weirdly fabulous.

Sterling and I set out for the city of Detroit again on Sunday after a great bagel breakfast and visited downtown Detroit a little more. We explored the Penobscot Building (benefit to a deserted city: you're allowed to go into places that you wouldn't normally be). We also got to wander around Fort Wayne, a star-shaped fort that was started in 1701 and was only abandoned in 1967.

We later met up with Trisha and saw her super cute and very interesting house that was so fun to explore. She took us on a tour of the Boston-Edison neighborhood and showed us more of Detroit before sharing an incredible barbecue dinner at Slow's Barbecue downtown. Wonderful conversation and delicious food... definitely the theme of the weekend!

So, although we may be in Baltimore next year... Sterling and I plan on coming back! The trip just whet our appetite for more Detroit fun!

Today, I went to the beach front with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear."
She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but
I had to tell someone!

Have you ever considered about adding a little bit more than just
your articles? I mean, what you say is important and everything.
But think about if you added some great images or videos to give your
posts more, "pop"! Your content is excellent but with images
and video clips, this site could definitely be one of the most beneficial in its field.

Good blog!
